If you’re anything like me, work’s a big part of your life. But when it’s really busy and stressful, it can feel impossible to focus on your health.

And sometimes, when it’s so overwhelming and you’re stuck in your head, it can start to feel like you can’t have a successful career AND a healthy lifestyle. Can’t it?

There’s always this constant challenge of time. Right? Like there’s never enough hours in your day to achieve everything you want…

To feel positive about your work. Be more on top of things. And for work to start on a Monday morning, not a Sunday night.

To exercise more consistently. Eat a healthy breakfast every day. And prep your lunches — so you don’t end up eating 2 slices of toast or half a packet of biscuits…

To see your mum, dad and friends more. Talk to your partner about other things besides work and how uncomfortable you feel in your body. And to make more of your evenings — instead of just eating supper, followed by a big bag of salt and vinegar crisps and a Twix, then going to bed feeling guilty.

And ultimately, to change your habits so you can feel more in control of your health, your work, your life.

I bring all this up to let you know, I get you. I get why it’s hard for you to prioritise yourself. I get that you work a lot because you need to keep up with it all. And I get that you sometimes feel run-down and not yourself.

That’s why I’m sharing 4 simple (but not necessarily easy) work-life boundaries with you today.

Boundaries that’ll help you feel more energised, focused and clear headed:

#1 When you finish work every day, put your laptop in a cupboard.

#2 Eat breakfast before you start work — away from your desk.

#3 Start work at 8.30am, not 8am (I used to start work earlier than I had to, too 😉).

#4 Remove all work email, calendar and document access from your phone.

Imagine trying one of these for a week or two. How would you feel?

More in control? More motivated? More content?

Of course, initially, you might feel guilty. But you have to remember that prioritising yourself isn’t selfish. It’s NECESSARY. For your health. Your happiness. Your relationships. And yes, your career too.

Making time for yourself is how you create days you enjoy. It’s how you become a more positive, confident, stronger version of you — at home and at work. It’s how you become a better partner, daughter, friend, colleague.

It’s how you thrive. Every. Single. Day.
