  • The 5-step routine that stops you feeling overwhelmed — AND helps you get more done.
  • A simple way to be more organised, productive and successful every single day (hint: it’s not a new productivity app, diary or notebook!).
  • The mindset shift you need to make to get control of your thoughts.

The Instant Fix

It might not feel like it, but an overlooked reason for overwhelm is often how your mind feels vs reality.

Thoughts, ideas and worries running through your mind feel like A LOT. Especially if they’re stuck on repeat! And make you feel heavy and foggy-headed.

Want to know the best way to get them unstuck and out of your head? Pen and paper!

By capturing your thoughts on paper, you instantly feel lighter, less overwhelmed, and more in control.

And often, realise your reality isn’t as overwhelming or bad as your mind has you believe!

So, follow these 5 simple steps to clear your head and get unstuck in 5 minutes or less:

Step 1

Write down everything on your mind — ALL your thoughts, to-do’s, ideas, goals, worries and things you want to change.

Step 2

Look at your list and cross through any items you have no control over. Plus, anything you *think* you need to do but don’t *actually* have to do. Trust me, this feels really good!

Step 3

Choose ONE item from your list you can do right now.⁣ Don’t overthink it. What you pick doesn’t matter for this practice — what’s most important is making a decision.

Step 4

Write your #1 item on a sticky note. Then, put your list out of sight.

Step 5

Do the task on your sticky note — right now! If it’s too big to achieve in one go, identify an action step that’ll get you closer to achieving it, then do that.

Doing something — anything — is the key to getting unstuck and finding your motivation, so don’t skip this step.

The Strategic Fix

Another reason for overwhelm is believing everything’s a priority — rather than deciding what you’ll do now and what can or should wait.

The reality is, you can only do so much in a day because your time, energy, and attention are limited. And overwhelm stems from wanting to do more than your mind feels it can cope with.

Want to know the best way to calm your mind? Prioritise! With pen and paper!

So, follow these 5 simple steps to reduce overwhelm long-term and get more done:

Step 1

Take your list from above and mark which items are goals you want to achieve and which are to-do’s you have to get done.

Step 2

Take two sheets of fresh paper and write “Future Goals” on one and “To-Do List” on the other. Then, transfer each item from your original list onto one of these new lists.

Step 3

Choose ONE item from your “Future Goals” list — we’ll call this your #1 goal.

If you can’t choose just one goal, I get it, but don’t have more than three!

Step 4

Every day, on a new sheet of paper, create a daily plan. Write your #1 goal — plus 1 to 3 things you could do towards achieving it. Then, underneath, list 1 to 3 things from your “To-Do List”.

Step 5

Follow your daily plan. Keep your “Future Goals” and “To-Do List” out of sight, and only look at them when you need to choose a new goal or are planning your day.

This practice forces you to capture and prioritise everything you want to do and make progress towards it each day.

Because, the thing is, small daily steps add up over time to BIG progress and BIG achievement. And, help you stop feeling so overwhelmed!
