Am I the only one who didn’t know this?

That’s what I asked myself when I came across this jewel of wisdom years ago:

You have a mind. But you are not your mind.

And learning to manage your mind — rather than it control you — is one of the best things you’ll do. 💞

The easiest way to start? For the next few days, notice your thoughts as often as possible. 

Then literally tell yourself what you’re thinking…

  • I wish I hadn’t eaten so much.
  • I’m thinking how unattractive I am.
  • I keep saying I’m lazy.
  • I’m worrying what they think of me.
  • I’ve got so much to do.
  • I’m overthinking that situation again.

Don’t add further commentary, like: Why do I always do that. Or I wish I could stop it!

Simply say to yourself — either internally or out loud — what your mind’s thinking. 

Nothing more. Nothing less.

This simple yet effective mind management technique gives voice to your negative thoughts. Which paradoxically stops them taking over and ruining your day.

Most of the time, it’ll also clear your head. And make you feel better. 

It’s a practice. 

One I have to recommit to often. But one that changes my day — like it did yesterday — when I do.
