Let me guess…
You haven’t done enough so far this week — and regret procrastinating on Monday?
You wish you’d eaten better and exercised like you said you would — why do you always quit on yourself?
You desperately want to be more like “that girl” — cool, confident and with her act together?
We all have those days…weeks…and negative thought spirals.
That’s why I created this blog post.
To help you stop the negative thinking and learn how to feel good in 7 minutes. Plus:
- Why your brain focuses on the negative — and why it’s not your fault.
- 5 simple questions to help you get out of your head and feel lighter, fast.
- The #1 way to feel happier and more successful (without having to tick another thing off your to-do list!).
- 6 things that make you wonderful.
- A quick way to feel good about what you’ve achieved this year.
- “That girl’s” secret.
Here’s the thing…
Firstly, no one has it “all together”.
We’re all doing the best we can with what we know.
“That girl”, she’s not better, more disciplined or more motivated than you. She’s just spent more time creating healthy — mental, emotional and physical — habits that have added up over time to create the version of her you see.
Also, don’t forget you see 1% of her life — meaning you have no idea what the other 99% is actually like for her.
Secondly, you’ve forgotten how amazing YOU are — because thousands of years ago, if you weren’t always thinking worst-case you wouldn’t survive. Put another way, your brain’s designed to focus on the negative.
So, please know when you get stuck in negative overthinking, or your inner critic takes over, it’s not your fault. And you’re certainly not alone.
With that said though, if you want to stop being so up and down with your moods, you can train your brain to be more positive.
This is what I want to encourage you to do, today.
To take a few minutes to give yourself some credit.
Why? Because you’re so caught up in your to-do list, negative self-talk and overthinking, that you stop believing in yourself and can no longer see how far you’ve come.
So, look back over the past year and ask yourself these questions.
5 Simple Questions To Help You Feel Better in 7 Minutes
- What’s 1 thing you’re proud of this year? What’s gone well for you?
- What’s 1 challenge you’ve overcome? What did you learn from it?
- What’s 1 thing you like about yourself? What can you appreciate about who you are?
- What’s 1 thing you did for someone else? Who did you help or support?
- What’s 1 thing you changed about your life? What did you do for YOU?
Take a minute to appreciate how much you’ve done and achieved this year. Big and small!
Celebrate your wins and everything you do and bring to this world and others.
Maybe more importantly, celebrate who you are — your kindness, loyalty, compassion, humour, ambition and strength.
Because there’s only ONE YOU — there never has been and never will be anyone with your unique values, personality, strengths, thoughts, creativity, ideas, experiences, and inner (most important) and outer beauty.
If that’s not something to celebrate, what is?
Plus, celebrating releases chemicals in your brain that give you feel-good emotions of pride, happiness, and success.
So, before you go, be sure to grab your notebook and pen — maybe make a coffee, light a candle and grab your favourite blanket — and spend 7 minutes writing your answers to the 5 questions above.
If you don’t have time right now, decide when you’ll do it within the next week. Then, add a reminder to your phone so you don’t forget.
For bonus points, decide where you’ll do it and when. This doubles your chances of success — with research showing 91% of people who planned the time and location of a task did it, vs those who didn’t.
