Feeling overwhelmed by societal pressure? Struggling to feel confident in your own skin? This post’s for you.
It wasn’t something I used to think about…
But once I started working on it, everything shifted.
Because, here’s what no one tells you:
The most important relationship in your life is the one you have with yourself. And to look and feel your best, you need to work on that relationship first.
You must learn to accept who you are — inside and out. Because once you do, every area of your life improves.
You feel happier and more confident. You eat better and exercise more. Your relationships get better. And you have more energy and motivation.
Ultimately, you create a respectful, kinder, stronger relationship with YOU. You know…the person you spend ALL your time with.
It’s a journey that takes commitment and hard work. But a fulfilling one — where you feel a bit better about yourself every single day. And that over time changes your life.
That’s why today, I’m sharing 7 ways you can get started:
#1 Put yourself first
Create a morning or evening routine to do more of what you enjoy. To read. Journal. Do a pilates or HIIT class. Or simply have a coffee in bed before getting up.
#2 Invest time and money in YOU
Invest in your mental, emotional and physical health. Invest in your personal and professional development. Invest in books, courses and coaches. Invest in you!
#3 Talk to yourself like a friend
Write down what you like about yourself. Then every morning, look in the mirror and say at least one nice thing about you to YOU. Whatever you’d say to a friend — say it to yourself.
#4 Stop your negative voice
When your negative voice — the one we all have — gets loud, practice saying: “Not today, thanks!” Then find something positive about yourself to replace it with.
#5 Strengthen your mind
Mental exercise is just as important as physical. So try 5 minutes of meditation or gratitude journaling daily. Or, a walk in nature with your pup. No email. No podcast. No music.
#6 Respect your body
Look after the only heart and body you’ve been given. Aim for a healthy breakfast and lunch most days. Try to exercise 2-5 times a week. And don’t forget to rest and recharge, too.
#7 Learn to set boundaries with yourself and others
Here’s some examples: “I’ll replace my afternoon coffee with Tick Tock Green Tea. I’ll not work after 7 pm. I’ll have one evening a week to myself. And I’ll let my sister know I can do X each week, but not Y”.
Small daily steps lead to big changes that last. So, please try just ONE idea from this list for now — and commit to it for a month. Then, in a few weeks, try something else.
Most importantly, keep working on your relationship with YOU — it’s the best thing you’ll ever do for yourself and others.
Speak again next week.
With love,
Becky x
