3 Simple Ways To Eat Better
(1) Have 3-5 Healthy Recipes You Rotate
Sometimes the biggest blocker to eating better is deciding every night what to have for supper. So, find 3 to 5 simple, quick and whole-food meals (e.g. fish and veggies, stew, curry, spaghetti bolognese, fajitas) to make and rotate Monday to Thursday each week. And, at the weekends be more flexible and try different things to prevent feelings of restriction and boredom! Btw, this tip doesn’t just help you eat better — it’ll save you money and time too!
(2) Choose To Enjoy Cooking
The truth is, to be healthier, you need to cook the majority of meals from scratch. To make this easier, strive to change your mindset around cooking. Stop seeing it as something else you have to do, and instead as an opportunity to fuel your mind and body with the energy they need to look and feel their best. Make it a relaxing and enjoyable ritual by playing chilled hits on Alexa, or listening to the latest episode of your favourite podcast — use it as a way to switch off from the busyness of your day. The goal is to reframe the way you view and approach your meals. With this mental shift, you’ll turn cooking into something you look forward to rather than a chore.
(3) Read Your Food Labels
Marketing of food and drink is clever — and dare I say deceiving. For example, many products marketed as healthy and full of vitamins, minerals, fibre and even 1 of your 5 a day, are on closer inspection highly processed junk! These fast foods contain lots of unnecessary ingredients that drain your energy, don’t make you look or feel good, and hurt your mental, emotional and physical health — both immediately and long term. So, a good guide when you’re trying to eat better is to look at labels when you’re shopping and avoid products with 7 or more ingredients — especially if the first one’s sugar or there’s multiple ingredients you can’t pronounce! Unless of course, you’re buying a treat — like some crisps and dip for Friday night 😉 .
Good nutrition is essential for good mental, emotional and physical health. Which is exactly what these tips help you achieve.
Because the thing is, if your diet is full of fast, packaged and processed meals, snacks and takeaways, you’ll never give yourself the nutrients and energy you need to look and feel your best. Of course, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have those things ever again, or that you need to follow a strict diet plan.
Like I always share, it’s about balance and making small tweaks over time that make you feel good, in control and happy — not guilty, frustrated or restricted.
And trust me, small tweaks, like those above, have a positive knock-on effect you can’t predict. And when implemented one at a time, make you feel SO good, you’ll never go back.
Try one for a week or two, and you’ll see exactly what I mean.
