We were SO tired.
It was our first “proper” holiday as a couple.
Seven days in Turkey. All-inclusive hotel. With the most amazing views, staff and little details you wouldn’t forget.
Towels folded into swans.
Sun loungers designed for two people.
And mint chocolate chip ice cream for free — all day, every day!
So we did what you’re “supposed” to do on holiday. Not much.
But rather than feel rested and recharged, I felt the opposite.
Why am I sharing this with you? Because we’re heading to Lake Garda soon.
Which got me thinking…
You’ve got to decide what relaxation and rejuvenation mean to you.
For me, it isn’t doing nothing for hours at a time. It doesn’t energise me. Calm my mind. Or bring me joy.
That’s why I now see time off as an opportunity to do more. Not less.
Specifically, more of the things YOU LOVE.
To put down your phone. Enjoy — rather than rush — breakfast. Wander and explore for hours without a plan. Go to the gym. Journal. And read as much as possible (and yes, I read non-fiction even though you’re not “supposed” to on holiday).
To discover new cafes. People watch (just us?!). Visit local markets. Bike to old towns. Stop for lunch — and try something different. Chill uninterrupted with my partner, Phil. Then watch the sunset with a glass of red wine. every. single. night.
What about you? What would you love to do more of? What recharges you and makes you feel good?
Make a list — choose one thing — then give yourself time to do it this weekend.
