Want to save more and be better with money?

Want to know how to manage your money to get the things you want?

Want to learn stress-free secrets to being good with your money?

I can help ðŸ™‚. Today, I’m sharing 5 uncommon ways to be better with money. I’ve personally used them to improve my mindset, save more and better manage my money. They include:

  • A quick way to make the best spending decisions.
  • 3 mindset shifts you need to stop suffering.
  • A simple way to make saving fun (yes, really!)
  • 2 ways to stop overthinking when dealing with money.
  • The secret to saving more money without feeling restricted.
  • How to start saving money & still enjoy your Starbucks.

With that, let’s dive in.

Tip #1 — Find what’s important to YOU.

Happy and successful people know what they value and create a life around it. How does this help you?

Knowing what’s most important to YOU, helps you decide where to spend your money. And where to save it.

So, rather than trying to save money on everything. You save money—or don’t spend it—on things you don’t value. And instead, keep as much as possible for the things you love.

For me, it’s health, growth and love. So I happily and without guilt buy activewear and online exercise classes, books and courses, and meals with my favourite people. Saving as much money as possible in other areas of my life—my car, phone and house bills.

What’s great too, is discovering the free things that match my values. Like coffee at home with friends after a walk, cosy nights watching Friends with Phil, and listening to The Diary Of A CEO podcast.

And you know what? Discovering your values and matching your life to them is one of the best ways to 10x your happiness, success and finances. So, to help you even more, I’ve created a free cheat sheet so you can quickly learn what’s most important to you. Download it instantly below.

Tip #2 — Decide what you want to achieve with your money.

So, what do you want to do, have or be? Do you want to buy your own home? Go to Croatia on holiday this year? Or, maybe you want to have a £2000 emergency fund to ease your money anxiety?

Whatever it is, decide ONE goal you’ll save towards first. Choosing one, just for now, avoids overthinking and overwhelm. It also allows you to start small, so you barely notice you’re saving. For example, could you start saving £20 a month without it feeling restrictive? Most of us could.

Tip #3 — Try simple experiments with your money.

Do you know that 40% of what we do each day is automatic? We buy the things we do because it’s what we’ve always done.

This is great news because it gives you a fantastic opportunity to experiment with your spending. To try new things and see if you like them better (or not!).

This experimentation can look many different ways. For example, have you always bought high-end makeup like Bare Minerals or Bobbi Brown? Or, have you experimented with slightly cheaper high-street brands? If not, use Google to find some “dupes” and surprise yourself with the alternatives.

You never know you might find something new you can’t live without. Or, at least, a cheaper item you’re happy to buy when you need to spend a little less.

Here’s some more ideas:

  • Always shopping in Sainsbury’s? Why not give Aldi a try?
  • Love buying books? Why not try second-hand
  • Get your hair done every 6-weeks? Why not experiment with 8?
  • Buy a new phone every 2 years? Why not go 3 next time?
Tip #4 — Remember it’s not forever. Life is full of different chapters.

I wish I’d realised in my 20s that life is like a book. And, in each chapter, we want different things. With some chapters being a few months in length. And others a few years.

Put another way, how you spend your money will change. What you save will change as your projects, goals, and dreams do. Meaning nothing you decide to do today has to be a forever thing.

For example, in my early 20s, my #1 goal was to buy my own home. So, I saved a lot. When I achieved that, my focus moved to more holidays, weekends away and spending more on things I love—like coffee, eating out and white roses. Then early in my 30s, we (my partner Phil and I) set a goal to pay off our mortgage as soon as possible. So, for this chapter, I saved a lot. And, you know, it became an exciting game for us to see how fast we could reach our goal while still doing other things important to us.

You can make each chapter of your life a fun game too. For example, let’s say you want to go to Croatia this summer. Make it a game to save as much as possible in the next two months. Then take a break from that intense savings chapter. Or, if it feels fun, jump straight into your next goal.

Tip #5 — Stop overthinking by doing one thing at a time.

As someone driven, ambitious and hard-working, I know you want to do everything. But sometimes we get so overwhelmed we don’t know where to begin, right?

The solution? Focus on one action at a time. By taking 10 minutes once a month to scroll through your spending. And, without judgment or self-criticism, choose one area to save money.

Maybe experiment with having Netflix OR Apple TV+ for a few months? Rather than having both? Then, maybe next month, try spending £20 less on clothes. Or, swapping your weekly takeaway for an M&S takeaway meal deal.

If you tweak just one thing a month, you’ll surprise yourself with how much you can save in a year. And how much better you get with money—without feeling like you’re missing out.

So, there you are—5 tips to be better with money. Each one can be used on its own to get what you want—all without the usual suffering connected to managing and budgeting money.
